Studio 585 was started in 2016 by Nina Bell. She grew up in Jersey City and as a kid, she always wanted a more challenging and inventive art experience. After she graduated college at the Cooper Union in Manhattan, studying fine arts, Nina decided to open up her studio to children who love art the same way she does. Studio 585 is a place where children learn technique through working with real artist materials, and undertaking dynamic projects in a community full of other young artists.
Shortly after Studio 585 started, Nina was joined by her sister Madeleine, who studied architecture and design at the Cooper Union. Together Nina and Maddy have constructed an arts experience tailored to young artists who wish to immerse themselves into new aspects of art and to further their talents. As the Studio and community grew exponentially Nina opened another wing of the studio in which Maddy designed and renovated to make room for more enthusiastic young artists to join.
Maddy and Nina’s aspiration is to offer an unparalleled art experience for artists of all ages and talents, and for them to become part of the loving art community that is Studio 585.
